Frequently Asked Questions

Our Doughnuts

Q: Can I order your doughnuts through the mail? A: Unfortunately, no. We’re obsessed with the quality of our doughnuts and feel that mailing them just won’t do them justice. If you’d like to pre-order a dozen or two (or three or four) for pick-up, please call your café directly.

Q: What's the difference between an old fashioned and a regular cake doughnut? A cruller and a cake doughnut? A raised and a cake doughnut? A: An old fashioned doughnut uses different ingredients like sour cream to create its unique texture. It’s also fried at a lower temperature, which allows it to open like a flower. Cake doughnuts are spiced and fried at higher temperatures to maintain their shape. Our crullers use more liquid in the batter than cake doughnuts do and their shape is different. The raised doughnuts use a different mix and we add yeast as a leavening agent to create an airier texture.

Q: Do you use shortening? A: Yes, we use a vegetable shortening that contains zero grams trans fat.

Q: What oil do you use to fry your doughnuts? A: We use a zero grams trans fat palm oil to fry our doughnuts.

Q: How many calories are in your doughnuts? Which one is the healthiest? A: Please click here for nutritional information for our doughnuts. This list is a work in progress.

Our Coffee

Q: Do you roast your own coffee? A: Yes, we roast our coffee in small batches at our roastery located in our 5th Avenue location in downtown Seattle

Q: Is your coffee fair trade or organic? A: Our coffee cannot be labeled “fair trade” or “organic” as the requirements to be certified can be more trouble than they’re worth for some coffee farmers. However, on average we pay significantly more than the fair trade price of $1.26 per pound, and our coffees are typically sustainably grown
